Course Objectives:
By completing this course, Students should be
able to:
- Understand
presentation and interpretation of the data
- Understand
statistical central tendency measures
- Understand
statistical dispersion measures
- Understand
and apply the simple linear regression technique
- Understand
the basic concepts of probability
- Understand
the concepts of random variables and the probability function
- Be
familiar with some probability distributions
- Determine
the interval estimation of the population parameters
- Understand
testing statistical hypotheses for the population parameters
Course Description
Presentation and interpretation of data,
elementary probability concepts, random variables and probability distribution,
binomial, Poisson, exponential, normal random variables. Simple linear
regressions. Application to engineering problems. The laboratory session will
be devoted to problem solving using statistical software.

Lecture
- Presentation
and interpretation of the data, measures of central tendency and
dispersion – (6 hrs(
- Simple
linear regression with applications – (5 hrs(
- The
elementary probability concepts – (3 hr)
- The
random variables and the probability distribution functions and their
characteristics (Expectations, Variation, moments) – (9 hrs(
- Some
probability distribution (Binomial, Poisson, Exponential) – (9 hr)
- Interval
estimation of the population parameters – (9 hrs(
- Testing
statistical hypotheses for the population mean and variance – (9 hrs(
Laboratory
- Engineering statistics applications using computer commercial
packages.

The total course marks are 100 marks. divided in the following manner
10% Homework, take an average of the total number of homeworks
10% Attendance.
10% Quizzes, two quizzes
30% Midterm exam
40% final exam.
