I was searching online for solving the problem of installing windows 7 after removing linux ubuntu. I found it impossible to install windows 7. the Hard Disk is fully controlled by linux and has different format, if you reformat it, all the data on the Hard Disk will be lost. I have done the following without succeed:
- made a boot CD with partition magic included, partition magic can't detect the Hard Disk, maybe because the Hard Disk is SATA.
- made Herin Boot CD version 15. The hard disk is seen by the programs in the CD but still when i install windows 7 it can't see the Hard Disk and ask me to refer to the Hard Disk Driver which is difficult to be obtained.
- I tried to fix the MBR and boot records with the following commands
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot
command prompt can be reached from the bootable windows 7 CD. still windows 7 installing disc can't detect the hard disk
- I used Herin CD, it includes the GParted linux program. I opened that program and backed up my files on Flash disk.
- I used Herin CD's acronis program to partition and format my disk.
- I booted using windows 7 CD and formated the disk again in the installing wizard.
- windows 7 is successfully installed.
